PDM Neptec has been chosen to appear in Marine Technology Reporter’s special annual publication, which profiles the leading 100 companies currently serving the marine technology and ocean science community.

In choosing PDM, the selection board at MTR recognised the importance of the company’s technological advances and R&D initiatives, as well as its testing capabilities and product development expertise.

The Compact Quickcure Moulding System (QMS) is a single slot, portable hotplate system for quick and easy cable splicing and repairs offsite.  It comprises a single slot custom made mould heating block, Quickcure heater and temperature probe.  Sachet based twin pack Elastomers are available for use in custom made moulds which are supplied with a Peg Spanner and Mould Drift for de-moulding.  The Compact QMS heats up to the required temperature in 10 minutes, achieving uniform heat distribution within the mould, which is an essential factor in producing repeatable quality mouldings.  It is suitable for cable installations up to 12mm in diameter which are awkward or costly to remove for repair and maintenance.

PDM Neptec have been awarded a three year contract with Trinity House to supply electrical cubicles for a new design of navigation buoy. PDM will manufacture a range of electrical junction and distribution boxes incorporating underwater cables and connectors that will be fully exposed to the hostile marine environment of the UK coastline. The new MKS 200 range of miniature and robust metal shell underwater connectors are now available from Teledyne Impulse. The design is based on the successful Titan series and is being launched as the MKS 200 series. It will be available as a 5 and 7 way dry mate connector and a 4 way wet mate connector with contact sizes from #22AWG to #26AWG. The series are rated at 10000psi mated with an open face rating of 5000psi for the bulkhead.

This underwater connector series delivers a robust metal shell configuration with considerable track record in an extremely compact size that addresses the relentless market drive towards miniaturisation. 

PDM are carrying out a study of cathodic delamination and other related issues in collaboration with Portsmouth University. The object of the study is to examine the phenomena involved and to optimise surface preparation & bonding.

Custom analytical techniques and trials are being used to study material performance. Substrate preparation, primers and elastomers are being evaluated as part of this work.

The stability of moulded assemblies under different electrical potentials and degradation due to micro-organisms is also being examined.
